Charmed Book Haven Reviews – The Candy Book Tag!

It has been a super long time since I’ve done a book tag and I sincerely apologize! One of my goals the next few months is to do more of these. I came across this one on Emily’s Escapist Books and Reading so definitely go check out her blog!

It’s the day before the dreaded V-Day, now, time to sink our teeth into this bag of goodies!

Apples – Ah. Healthy food. It is deep, meaningful, and probably won a lot of awards, but, umm, it really isn’t your thing.

Read this in high school, but wasn’t as into it as my classmates. It foretells a dystopian future which coined the phrase, “Big Brother is Watching You.” You have zero freedom, constantly monitored, and all-around terrorizing. Sure, it’s deep and all, but I didn’t get into it much.

Milk Chocolate – This is a book you’d recommend to absolutely EVERYONE.

I don’t even think I need to get into why I would recommend it for everyone. It’s HARRY POTTER!

Black Jellybeans – Why do these exist?

Another one as to I don’t think I should have to explain why and do NOT get me started on the movies…*shivers*.

Chocolate Kisses – Awww, this novel had the best romance.

Cat + Bones = Forever!

Gummy Spiders – Eek! You made sure to check under your bed every night for a week after reading this scary one.

This book, written by Stephen King’s son Joe, is incredibly gut-wrenchingly creepy! It also  talks about mental illness and sexual assault, but discusses the effects it can have on the victim. The book is worth the read and creepy!

Jumbo Lollipop – This took you forever to get through, but hey! You did it!

This took me FOREVER to read! I’m not a huge Sarah J. Maas fan if you can tell by my Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses reviews. I have a hard time with her lead female characters and their attitudes, mainly, but the fact there is sexual assault in ACOTAR and people overlook that in the sequel is a tad disturbing. That’s one of the reason why it took me so long to read this.

When I finally finished it, I ended up being angrier about the series than before. I’ll get into it in my review that’s coming soon for it. On top of it, I’m dragging my feet to read the last one. Sorry Maas fans, but I like smart characters who don’t fall for someone that assaulted them or don’t get an easy riddle that can save lives.

Cotton Candy – Admit it, you loved this when you were younger (you probably still do). Think children’s or MG fiction.

Nancy Drew were what made me fall in love with mysteries! I actually still collect old copies anytime I go to a book sale. Nancy, Ned, and the rest of her group of pals have solved an insane amount of mysteries that could thrill any person no matter what age.

I officially tag you all to complete this tag!

Don’t forget to tag me so I may see your answers!

Happy Reading!

Reviewing The Classics: “Anne of Green Gables” By L.M. Montgomery

Reviewing The Classics: “Anne of Green Gables” By L.M. Montgomery

anne-of-green-gables.jpgWhen you have a hard week, like me, it’s times like these you look to the classics for comfort. Anne Shirley, is my comfort right now. Anne and I go way back to when I was in fifth grade. We were “kindred spirits” from the beginning of her story as an orphan girl mistakenly sent to a family at a train station to the the very end of her series with her family on Prince Edward Island.

For those who haven’t read this beloved series or even the first novel, you need to immediately. Anne is truly a character who can make even the most timid book character walk away in shame. Although she had her rough spots, she would always pick up the pieces and jump right back up again. If I could, I’d love for Anne to be a living, breathing person. Think about the adventures one could have with this girl?

For newbies, Anne Shirley is mistakently sent to live with elderly siblings Marella and Matthew Cuthbert. Originally, they had wanted a boy in order to help Matthew on their family farm. Imagine the surprise on quiet Matthew Cuthert’s face when he discovered the child awaiting him at the train station was indeed not a boy but a girl. This is where the adventures of Anne began.

We watch Anne grow up through the pages and her new family grow very fond of her. Anne is known to have a wild imagination and this often gets her into trouble. You ever had that moment of your life where you wanted to attempt to dye your hair with a cheap dye and you receive the opposite results? Anne wanted to be different, to be accepted by everyone around her and instead she ends up with green hair!

There are plenty of lessons to be learned throughout not only this book but the whole series. Whether you are in your mid-teens or late twenties, Anne Shirley’s stories never wear out. In all honesty, they get better with age.
